Museum Free Admission Marking Seventh Anniversary

The Destin History and Fishing Museum is celebrating their 7th Anniversary October 1, 2012. Visit the Museum at 108 Stahlman Avenue to see the newest exhibits including the renovated evolution of fishing in Destin exhibit, new turpentine industry exhibit and the new reef ecosystem recreation.

Old Fashion Destin Fish Fry Fundraiser - Saturday, June 9, 2012 

The Destin History and Fishing Museum announces their annual Old Fashioned Fish Fry, Saturday, June 9, 2012. The event will take place in the Destin Community Center on Stahlman Avenue from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Tickets for the fish fry are $13 in advance and $15 the day of the event.

"Footprints in the Sand" Paver Campaign

The DH&FM invites you to join our brick paver campaign, "Footprints in the Sand", a celebration of life in Destin. Our "footprints" family name pavers denote the fifteen family names present in Destin 1835 –1935. The paver garden base was completed June 2011 thru the generosity of a community project provided by the City of Destin and the Churches of Destin.

The Destin History & Fishing Museum announces their Annual Gumbo Contest and Silent Auction Fundraiser. The event will take place Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Destin Community Center from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Area restaurants and individuals compete for the title of the best gumbo on the panhandle.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum hosted the 25th Holiday on the Harbor Destin Boat Parade Saturday, December 4, 2011. 25th Annual Holiday on the Harbor Destin Lighted Boat Parade
The Destin History and Fishing Museum will be hosting the 25th Holiday on the Harbor Destin Boat Parade Sunday, December 4, 2011. Festivities will be held that afternoon all along the Harbor and the Lighted Boat Parade and judging will start at 6 P.M. upstairs at Harry T’s Restaurant. Boats will start lining up in the Harbor between 5 and 5:30 PM. Fireworks in the East Pass will light up the sky after the parade.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum held their annual Gumbo Contest and Silent Auction Saturday, January 22 at the Destin Community Center. Ticket holders enjoyed a Silent Auction of 51 packages, live music by Seminole Wind with Denis Milonas & Jim Downum, and gumbo from local contestants including restaurant and individual divisions.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum hosted the 24th Holiday on the Harbor Destin Boat Parade Saturday, December 18, 2010 which was sponsored by the Destin Charter Boat Association, Harry T’s Restaurant, and MeLasers. Craig Barker was the Master of Ceremonies for the event with judging from Harry T’s Restaurant. Twenty-four boats registered for the lighted boat parade which was viewed all along Destin Harbor.

The Hammer is Coming!
The Hammerhead Shark Tank Exhibit is coming soon to the Destin History and Fishing Museum. Construction is underway to bring home an 8 ˝ foot hammerhead shark mount which will be housed in a “shark tank” visible from the road.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum Annual Fish Fry held on Saturday, February 27 was very successful raising nearly $3,000. Money raised from the event will be used to complete our oral history DVD and kiosk project.

Destin History & Fishing Museum Gumbo Contest and Silent Auction 
The Destin History and Fishing Museum held their annual Gumbo Contest and Silent Auction Saturday, January 23 at the Destin Community Center. This event was originally held for many years by the Museum when it was located on Hwy. 98 near McGuire’s Restaurant. The event was started again when the Museum reopened in its current location on Stahlman Avenue at the site of the old Destin Library. Ticket holders enjoyed a Silent Auction of 40 packages, live music by Rusty & Jabo of BanjoRama, and gumbo from 26 local contestants.  Full Article >>


Wise Mullet Author Visiting Museum
Panama City native Timothy A. Weeks has just released his newest book Goldie’s Search for Silver. His books are a big hit with children of all elementary ages. Weeks’ book, Ol’ Middler Saves the Day (A Mullet Buddy Homecoming), was nominated for the 2007 SIBA Children’s Book Award.

Harry T’s Restaurant to Benefit the Destin History and Fishing Museum History on the Harbor
Saturday, October 3, 2009 the Destin History and Fishing Museum will have a table exhibit and raffle outside Harry T’s Restaurant on the Destin Harbor. The exhibit will feature pictures of early Destin, fishing, and information on the Museum. A $1 donation to the Museum for the raffle gives a chance at a $50, $100, or $200 gift certificate to Harry T’s.

The Destin History and Fishing Museum is celebrating the City’s 25th anniversary November 1st through November 8th. Admission is half price during the City’s celebration week. On Friday, November 6, a day set aside with special activities planned by the Destin Community Center, museum admission will be free.
